Individual Award

In September 2012, the Executive Secretary established the Individual Award for Correspondence Excellence to:
  • Reinforce high standards for correspondence excellence across the Department of Defense
  • Reward our hardworking action officers
Quarterly, the Executive Secretary presents awards to individuals who meet the highest of standards in preparing correspondence that directly supports Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense decision making.

Component Award

The Component Award for Correspondence Excellence recognizes:

  • Timely submission of responses and other pertinent correspondence to and on behalf of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense
  • Compliance with the Department's high standards for correspondence excellence
Monthly, the Executive Secretary awards the Component with the highest score as based on several criteria.  The criteria are weighted to capture the differing levels of correspondence and the relative correspondence workloads of Components. The Component with the most monthly awards from January through December wins the annual award.
